As Virgin Voyages returns to the Med, Barcelona remains one of Virgin Voyages’ key summer departure points. Whether it’s your first time sailing from Spain or you’re back for more, here’s what you need to know about getting to the port and where to stay before your cruise.

Where You Can Sail

Barcelona itineraries include stops across Italy, France, and the Balearics. Some of the ports you might visit include:

  • Florence/Pisa (Livorno) – A gateway to Tuscany’s famous cities
  • Rome (Civitavecchia) – Culture, pasta, and plenty of history
  • Ajaccio – A scenic Corsican town by the sea
  • Ibiza – Known for nightlife, but also relaxing beaches
  • Palermo & Naples – Southern Italy’s dramatic coastline and ruins
  • Marina di Carrara – Ideal for reaching Cinque Terre
  • Transatlantic – Typically her return to the Caribbean from Winter will take place from Barcelona

Which Port Does Virgin Voyages Use in Barcelona?

Virgin Voyages may use one of two terminals in Barcelona:

  • World Trade Center Terminal – Moll de Barcelona, s/n, 08039 Barcelona
  • Barcelona Cruise Terminal (Terminal A, B or C) – Moll Adossat, s/n, 08039 Barcelona

Both terminals are relatively close to the city center. However, Virgin usually doesn’t confirm the specific terminal until 2–3 days before sailing due to port traffic. Keep an eye on the Virgin Voyages app for the latest information, and your taxi driver will typically know where to go on the day.

There is very little waiting area inside or outside the port, so don’t arrive earlier than your assigned Terminal Arrival Time shown in the Virgin Voyages app. Luggage drop opens from 9:00 AM if you want to drop early. After that, you’re free to explore Barcelona until your boarding window opens.

Transfer Options & Pricing

Estimates vary by time of day and availability.

From Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN):

  • Taxi: €40–€50. Fixed airport fare applies. No need to pre-book.
  • Uber: ~€35–€50 depending on demand.
  • Welcome Pickups: ~€50. English-speaking drivers, pre-book online, flight-tracking included.
  • Aerobus + Taxi: €8–€10 to Plaça Catalunya, then ~€15 taxi to port.

From Central Barcelona:

  • Taxi: €15–€25 depending on location and time.
  • Metro + Walk/Taxi: L3 to Drassanes, then 20-minute walk or short ride.
  • Welcome Pickups: ~€30 from central hotels to port, recommended for reliability and ease.

We recommend Welcome Pickups for reliability and convenience, especially if you have luggage or are arriving directly from the airport. They have strong coverage in Barcelona and competitive rates. VV Insider will earn a comission from this booking.

    Rob,
I need some advise for my overcoming cruise on VV. It departs from Barcelona on October 11th.

We are scheduled to arrive at 9:05 am in the airport and our Terminal Arrival Time is 2:45 pm. We will have two suitcases and my Pride GoGo Mobility Scooter plus small carry on bags. I see Taxi, Uber and Welcome Pickups are available. The scooter will disassemble if necessary, but I would prefer just to not have to do this.
If we use Welcome Pickups how to arrange with the scooter. We want the easiest way to get from the airport to the ship? Also, what to do considering the timing of the arrival and departure time and my limited mobility. We have been to Barcelona twice before and do not want to visit anywhere, but I also do not want to sit at the port for 3-4 hours outside if everything is on time. Will they allow earlier boarding or is there some place close to go after dropping the luggage?

Hi Carl, I’ve replied to your email

  2. Toby says:

Do the Barcelona ports have a Rockstar lounge? If so, how does it compare to the Miami one?

    1. Rob Sammons says:

They have a Rockstar area. It doesn’t compare at all 😂 but you’ll still be first to board and there’s usually waters.

  3. Martina McKeon says:

On disembarkation day can we store our luggage at the port as our flight doesn’t depart until 23.05pm so we have a full day to explore Barcelona without dragging the bags with us .

    1. Rob Sammons says:

Store with Bounce, they have locations around the city here’s our link https://bounce.com/?ref=NORTHEAST98171435990

  4. mike says:

I have read that there is/was a luggage dropoff the day of embarkation at the airport. Any idea if this is true?

    1. Rob Sammons says:

Correct. In our embarkation guide we cover this process. Luggage drop off typically starts from 9am: https://vvinsider.com/guides-and-faqs/guide/embarkation/
