Virgin Voyages recently informed sailors about the cancellation of several sailings on Valiant Lady in 2025. These sailings, scheduled for May and October 2025, have been canceled as the ship is being chartered to other companies. While the exact charter company is unknown at this time, past charters have included organizations like WPT at Sea, Atlantis, and various TV production companies.

Although this news may be disappointing to some, chartering ships is a common practice in the cruise industry, often used when evaluating less popular sailings.

What is a Charter Cruise?

A charter cruise involves reserving an entire ship for a specific group or organization. This allows for a customized experience at sea, where everything from the entertainment to themed events is tailored for the guests. Virgin Voyages offers more information on charter options on their dedicated charter website.

Affected Sailings:

  • May 23, 2025Dominican Daze – 5 nights (Miami, Puerto Plata, Beach Club at Bimini, Miami)
  • May 28, 2025Fire and Sunset Soirees – 4 nights (Miami, Key West, Beach Club at Bimini, Miami)
  • October 10, 2025Dominican Daze – 5 nights (Miami, Puerto Plata, Beach Club at Bimini, Miami)
  • October 15, 2025Fire and Sunset Soirees – 4 nights (Miami, Key West, Beach Club at Bimini, Miami)

Re-booking Options

Sailors affected by these cancellations have been offered re-booking options. Those misplaced can book any voyage of the same length or less at the same fare. Sailors will keep the same included packages and the same meta category (e.g. RockStar for RockStar). Additionally, they will receive $100 in Sailor Loot. Those who choose not to re-book will receive a full refund.

Emails with further details should have been sent to affected sailors by now.

Overview

Virgin Voyages’ decision to charter the Valiant Lady in 2025 has led to several canceled sailings in May and October. Although disappointing, chartering ships is a routine practice in the industry. Sailors impacted by these changes have been offered flexible re-booking options and compensation in the form of Sailor Loot.

VV cancelled all the cruises in Australia and relocated Resilient lady causing a lot of people stress and financial hardship. I have friends who have bought plane tickets from Aus to Miami and made new bookings on some of those cruises that have now been cancelled again. I imagine $100 isn’t going to go far to abating their rage and increasing disenchantment with VV.

Do you really think $100 is adequate compensation for flight change/cancellation costs and the disaster for passengers who have inflexible vacations from work? In fact, unless a passenger rebooks, zero compensation.

No, I don’t think $100 is enough since some people have to reschedule flights and hotels and other things. MNVV used to offer $600 OBC….they should offer way more than just $100, even if it’s $100/pp minimum.
