Construction
Planning
On December 4, 2014, Virgin Group announced its plans to enter the cruise industry with the formation of Virgin Cruises. Initially, the company planned to build three ships, including Valiant Lady, after signing a letter of intent with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. The deal, which was confirmed in October 2016, was reported to be worth $2.55 billion. Virgin Cruises subsequently rebranded as Virgin Voyages.
Construction and Delivery
Valiant Lady’s construction began with her steel-cutting ceremony on July 20, 2018. After being assembled and floated out from the dry dock on May 20, 2020, the ship underwent necessary sea trials before her official delivery on July 1, 2021.
Technology and Specifications
Valiant Lady incorporates advanced technologies similar to her sister ship, Scarlet Lady, including diesel-electric genset systems and environmentally-focused features, although specific technical details are less publicized. The ship reflects Virgin Voyages’ commitment to sustainable practices and modern design.

The name Valiant Lady was announced on November 19, 2019, as part of Virgin Voyages’ branding of unique, empowering ship names. After a slight delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Valiant Lady’s maiden voyage took place on March 18, 2022, with a special three-night MerMaiden cruise from Portsmouth, England, to Zeebrugge, Belgium.
