Update: February 28, 2025 sailing now also affected.

Virgin Voyages has announced another adjustment to its Dominican Daze itinerary, replacing Puerto Plata with Grand Turk. This marks the third itinerary change for this route in recent weeks.

In a message to affected passengers, Virgin Voyages stated:

“We wanted to let you know that we’ve had to make a port change to your voyage. To keep Valiant Lady ship-shape, our Crew needs to perform some extra maintenance that will impact the amount of time we can spend in port. To ensure we provide you with an incredible experience and ample amount of time to explore beautiful destinations, we’re adjusting our itinerary and replacing Puerto Plata with Grand Turk in the beautiful Turks and Caicos.” – Virgin Voyages

Previous & Potential Future Adjustments

This change follows similar adjustments for the January 17th, January 31st & February 14th sailings, all of which replaced Puerto Plata with Grand Turk. While no additional changes have been announced, another Dominican Daze sailing is scheduled for March 14, 2025 & March 28, 2025, leaving the possibility of further itinerary tweaks.

Virgin Voyages has not specified the exact nature of the maintenance work, but these repeated adjustments suggest an ongoing need for operational changes. Notably Scarlet Lady still has a number of scheduled stops in Puerto Plata and is visiting the port.

What This Means for Sailors

For those booked on the February 28th sailing, the shift to Grand Turk provides an opportunity to explore a different destination. Known for its turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, and laid-back atmosphere, Grand Turk remains a popular Caribbean port.

Virgin Voyages encourages impacted passengers to review the updated itinerary and reach out with any questions or concerns. With multiple adjustments occurring in recent weeks, those on upcoming Dominican Daze sailings may want to keep an eye on their emails in case of further itinerary modifications.

I would rather this change be permanent. With all the negative review of Puerto Plata, it appears to be a low-value stop.

  2. Leah says:

We are booked on the February 28 sailing too. I can’t help but wonder what this is really about. And also whether it will impact the quality of my experience since I have been to Grand Turk before, but not Puerta Plata.

Just got the email for the Feb 28-Mar 5 sailing. The itinerary has changed for this one also.
