Virgin Voyages has launched its completely rebuilt mobile app on iOS. The updated app, simply titled Virgin Voyages, will be available as a separate download from the App Store. A version for Android is planned for a later stage.

What Changes With The New App

The transition began last week when the previous app was renamed to Sailor App. The new Virgin Voyages app appears as a separate listing in the App Store and introduces a revised approach to managing bookings and onboard planning. The Sailor App will remain available for the time being, but future development will focus entirely on the new version.

The app has been rebuilt using native iOS technologies, which is expected to improve speed, stability, and responsiveness. While the overall layout remains familiar, several enhancements have been introduced, including:

  • A redesigned home screen featuring a simplified countdown to your upcoming voyage
  • Updated event listings with clearer navigation
  • A more consistent design across the account and settings sections

Features Still To Be Added

Some well known features are not yet available in the new version. These include Ship Eats, which allows food and drink to be ordered directly to your cabin or select areas of the ship, and Shake For Champagne, the interactive feature that delivers Moet with a simple gesture. Sailors should continue to use the Sailor App on board for these functions.

Both services are expected to available shortly and will be added through future updates.

How To Download The New Version

To access the new app, search for Virgin Voyages in the App Store and look for the updated version available now. It is listed separately from the Sailor App, which will continue to work for now. However, those who want to benefit from ongoing improvements are encouraged to use the new version moving forward. The new version may not appear in search yet as the app propagates.

Although still in an early release phase, the updated app already represents a more reliable and intuitive experience. Further updates are expected in the coming weeks as Virgin Voyages continues to refine the platform based on user feedback.

I have one recently completed voyage and four future voyages. The new app continually reverts to the old booking so I can’t actually do anything. Dining reservations just opened up for my next voyage and the new app was unusable for that. Fortunately, the old app is still available. I wish there was some way to get app feedback directly to the developers. It would help to identify and correct flaws quicker. This new app clearly wasn’t ready for release and shouldn’t have been released without further testing and validation.

Same happens to me too 🙃

  2. JohnB says:

Typical Virgin Voyages incompetency! Only introduce an app that works for half of the guests.

  3. Sue DeMorris says:

Does that mean customers can successfully book restaurant reservations at the time they open?
This has obviously been a huge issue for EVERYBODY that is a paying customer. Only Travel Agents can do it and then, your lucky to reserve what you really want.
You spin for hours trying to book a reservation.

    1. Rob Sammons says:

When did you last book restaurants? The process has gotten better

    2. Rick N says:

I see all these posts about this but ,I guess i’m lucky and have never had an issue booking on the app from day one . Not sure why.

    3. Jon says:

Restaurant booking improved significantly a few months ago and can now be done on the website as well as the app. The old app worked excellently for dinner bookings for my sailing two months ago.

  4. Richard S says:

Downloaded and tried to use the app and it couldn’t find our booking, so contacted sailor services and the lady explained it was only for July onwards sailings and our cruise is this month. Was told to stick with the ‘old’ app

    1. Rob Sammons says:

That’s incorrect information hopefully they sort it

  5. Tom says:

So many issues still! Who are their developers?!
Also noticed they’ve increased the minimum iOS requirement so some of my family cannot install the app because their iPhones are too old. Hopefully they don’t stop access to the old app any time soon.

    1. Rob Sammons says:

      Development has been brought in-house

  6. Virginia Mathis says:

Not much of an improvement . I have 2 future voyages where I still can not enter info for “Check-in and get Ready to Sail” on the new App version.

    1. Gary Morris says:

Same here – are they on Brilliant Lady? Mine are, and I suspect that’s the issue, rather than the app… but I could be wrong!

      1. Virginia Mathis says:

Yes Gary. Both are on Brilliant Lady. I think you are correct about the issue.
