Virgin Voyages is changing its usual embarkation and disembarkation schedule for 2026 Alaska sailings departing from Seattle. The new times will take effect from July 30, 2026 onward.

The changes mean sailors should expect an earlier start and finish to their voyage. Most Terminal Arrival Times are expected to move around one hour earlier. In addition, the usual option to remain onboard until around 10:30 AM on disembarkation day will not be available in Seattle.

Virgin Voyages says the changes are needed to align departures with the tidal transit window at Seymour Narrows. The cruise line says the new schedule will help provide a safe and smooth transit. It should also give sailors the best opportunity to experience the scenery and wildlife of the Inside Passage.

New Seattle Embarkation Times

For affected 2026 Seattle departures from July 30 onward, Virgin Voyages will depart at 4:00 PM instead of the previously scheduled 5:00 PM.

• Departure time: 4:00 PM, previously 5:00 PM
• All sailors aboard by: 3:30 PM, previously 4:30 PM
• Terminal Arrival Times may move earlier

This means most sailors should expect their Terminal Arrival Time to move around one hour earlier than usual. Virgin Voyages says that if an existing arrival time changes, it will only move earlier and never later.

Priority boarding is currently expected to begin from around 1:15 PM. However, sailors should always follow the Terminal Arrival Time shown in the Virgin Voyages app.

Virgin Voyages says updated Terminal Arrival Times will appear in the app as embarkation windows are finalized. For the first affected sailing on July 30, all updates are expected to be completed by July 23.

New Seattle Disembarkation Times

Virgin Voyages has also confirmed an earlier disembarkation schedule for Seattle. This differs from the usual process, where sailors can often remain onboard until around 10:30 AM.

• Express Walk-Off with self-carried luggage: 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM
• Luggage Delivery to Terminal service: 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM

Sailors who usually prefer a relaxed final morning onboard should therefore plan to leave the ship earlier. Anyone with flights, transfers or hotel arrangements should also review their plans against the new schedule.

Why Virgin Voyages Is Making the Change

Virgin Voyages says the earlier departure is designed around the tidal conditions at Seymour Narrows.

The cruise line says this timing gives sailors the best opportunity to experience the Inside Passage. This includes its scenery, wildlife and connection to the natural landscape of the Pacific Northwest.

Virgin Voyages has also planned alternative passage options. These may be used if delays during embarkation or loading could otherwise affect the Inside Passage experience.

What Sailors Should Do Before Their Alaska Cruise

Sailors should regularly check the Virgin Voyages app for their confirmed Terminal Arrival Time. Arrival windows may move earlier as the new schedule is finalized.

Virgin Voyages recommends that anyone flying into Seattle on embarkation day arrives no later than 12:30 PM. However, arriving in Seattle the day before the cruise remains the recommended option.

Sailors should also review flights, hotel checkout times and ground transportation plans. This is especially important for anyone who had planned around the previous 5:00 PM departure.

Virgin Voyages is asking sailors to arrive at the terminal at their designated arrival time rather than arriving early or late.

Cabins May Not Be Ready Immediately

The earlier embarkation schedule could occasionally mean that some cabins are still being prepared when boarding begins.

Virgin Voyages says it will continue boarding as planned rather than delaying embarkation until every cabin is ready. Sailors will receive a notification through the Virgin Voyages app when their cabin becomes available. Onboard Crew may also notify sailors directly.

The updated Seattle schedule begins on July 30, 2026 and is expected to apply to Virgin Voyages’ remaining 2026 Alaska departures from the port.
