Virgin Voyages has updated its 2027 Solar Eclipse itinerary to ensure travelers can experience the eclipse’s totality while at sea. The change affects the Solar Eclipse: Spain, Portugal, Morocco voyage departing from Barcelona on July 28, 2027 aboard Resilient Lady. All ports remain the same, but the order has been adjusted so the ship will be positioned at sea on August 2, 2027 — the day of the eclipse.

Why the Change Was Made

Totality is best observed from open water, where the ship can navigate toward clear skies and away from coastal light. By shifting Tangier later in the itinerary and moving Funchal earlier, Virgin Voyages has created flexibility for the bridge team to secure the best viewing conditions. It’s a practical change that keeps every destination intact while adding a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the middle of the Mediterranean.

Extras On Eclipse Voyages

Virgin Voyages is planning a series of celestial experiences across its eclipse sailings, combining expert talks, themed cuisine, and immersive onboard programming designed to celebrate the beauty of the skies.

Live Astronauts & Astronomers

Experts in space exploration and astronomy will join select eclipse voyages, hosting talks and Q&A sessions about the science and wonder of solar phenomena. Expect astronauts who’ve seen Earth from orbit and astronomers who’ve spent their lives studying the stars.

Cosmic Cuisine

The culinary program will take an interstellar twist with playful creations like moonpies, Milky Way-inspired milkshakes, and desserts that tie into the celestial theme. It’s a creative way to merge flavor with fascination.

Special Programming

Performances, music, and mindfulness sessions will complement the skies above. Guests can expect orchestral music, moon ceremonies, and yoga under the stars — a program designed to blend science, art, and atmosphere.
