Virgin Voyages Expands Its Happenings Cast With First New Roles Since 2021 Launch

For the first time since Scarlet Lady debuted in 2021, Virgin Voyages is introducing brand new Happenings Cast roles, expanding the onboard personality lineup beyond the twelve established positions that have shaped the brand’s signature entertainment style.

The new additions are designed specifically for Alaska sailings and include “The Naturalist” and “The Lumberjack”. Virgin Voyages says the pair will serve as Alaska-exclusive resident experts, offering context in real time through informal conversations, ship-wide appearances, and newly created Happenings Events rather than scheduled lectures.

Crucially, the two new cast members will also host their own unique Happenings Events. These ship-wide experiences will take place in a variety of venues and are designed to help Sailors discover Alaska’s sights, stories, and cultural background in a more engaging and distinctive way.

Virgin Voyages has indicated these Alaska-focused Happenings Events will be an addition to the existing Happenings Events line-up planned for Brilliant Lady during the Alaska sailings, expanding the program rather than replacing what the ship already offers.

For newcomers, the VV Insider guide to the Happenings Cast explains the existing roles and how they fit into the Virgin Voyages onboard experience.

Meet the New Roles

Introducing “The Naturalist” – For Real Conversation, Not Lectures

The Naturalist role is intended to help Sailors interpret Alaska as they experience it, from glacier scenery to marine wildlife and the ecosystem changes shaping the region. The emphasis, according to Virgin Voyages, is on conversation over presentation, with the Naturalist meeting guests where they are across the ship instead of delivering traditional theatre-style lectures.

Alongside informal discussions, the Naturalist is expected to anchor at least one dedicated Happenings Event designed to translate what Sailors are seeing outside into stories, insight, and context that feel relevant to the voyage.

Introducing “The Lumberjack” – Leaning Into Alaska’s Working Heritage

The second new role, the Lumberjack, focuses on Alaska’s timber history and the communities shaped by it. Virgin Voyages is framing the character as a cultural voice rather than a novelty act, with storytelling expected to spotlight the region’s frontier identity and the industries that helped build coastal towns along the Inside Passage.

As with the Naturalist, the Lumberjack is expected to host a dedicated Happenings Event that brings Alaska’s working heritage into the ship’s programme through interactive, venue-based moments that complement the wider entertainment schedule.

At this time no one has been cast in these roles yet, as usual stay tuned for the most up to date cast information to VV Insider.

How These Roles Fit With the Existing Cast, and Abi’s Return as Hostess

Virgin Voyages has not yet shared detailed programming schedules for how the Naturalist and Lumberjack will appear day to day, or how closely they will collaborate with the established Happenings Cast roles. The way these new cast members will interact with the existing line-up of events, pop-ups, and ship-wide moments will be a key detail for Sailors who enjoy the current onboard atmosphere.

What is clear already is that familiar faces will remain part of the broader Happenings Cast as Brilliant Lady heads toward Alaska. Already confirmed is that Abi is returning as Hostess on Brilliant Lady during the 2026 period leading into Alaska, with her contract listed from 21 March through 16 July 2026.

Overview

As the Alaska season approaches, it should become clearer how these new Alaska-exclusive roles will play out in practice, including what their dedicated Happenings Events look like, where they sit within the ship’s broader entertainment programme, and how they will be integrated alongside the existing Happenings Events line-up on Brilliant Lady.

VV Insider will continue tracking how these positions evolve and what they mean for Sailors considering Alaska itineraries. To be notified as soon as we publish more details, subscribe to The Insider Newsletter and get updates delivered straight to your inbox.

This sounds great…to a point. I specifically booked a Sea Terrace so I didn’t have to fight for a good viewpoint. Unless they’re making house calls, my odds of learning anything from a roaming Naturalist is pretty low. I know VV like to be different, but sometimes a sit down presentation is exactly what you need!

May be sailing on 12 day in June on Brilliant lady! Can’t wait, Alaska is amazing! Got a casino offer we don’t think we can say no too. Just wish we could secure an XL Sea Terrace room deck 9-13 but none available.
