Sports Area
Overview
The Sports Area, nestled within the Athletic Club on deck 16 of Virgin Voyages’ ships, presents an interesting juxtaposition of relaxation and physical activity. Touted as a place for both group and individual sporting endeavours, the space offers a laid-back athletic setting against the backdrop of the vast ocean expanse.
The Sporting Proposition
Equipped with a netted multi-sports area, the Sports Area is quite versatile in the activities it caters to, from soccer and football to basketball. This provision offers an opportunity to both sports enthusiasts seeking a chance to practice their skills, as well as casual players just wanting a bit of fun and friendly competition.
However, it’s important to note that the Sports Area does not provide a professional sports environment. While it’s nice to have the option of enjoying a range of sports at sea, serious athletes might find the facilities somewhat limited, given the constraints of space and, of course, the unpredictability of weather at sea.
Organized Events
Virgin Voyages offers a schedule of group activities in the Sports Area, which adds a communal dimension to the experience. These group events can serve as a great way to meet fellow passengers and add a social twist to your workout. But, if the cruise line wants this venue to be a true hit, there may need to be more diverse activities and better promotion of the organized events, so that more guests are aware and can plan to participate.
Our Thoughts
In essence, the Sports Area aboard Virgin Voyages’ ships offers a somewhat casual and social sporting experience for those looking to break a sweat or enjoy some friendly competition. However, a higher level of organisation and the addition of a wider range of activities could potentially make this venue an even bigger draw. It’s a decent attempt at bringing sports onboard, but there is certainly room for improvement in execution.
