Rumor: Virgin Voyages to Homeport in Amsterdam in 2028?

A newly published Amsterdam cruise schedule has sparked rumors that Virgin Voyages could make the city its 2028 European homeport.

A newly published Amsterdam cruise schedule appears to suggest Virgin Voyages could return to Northern Europe in 2028, with Amsterdam emerging as a possible new European homeport. While nothing has been officially confirmed by Virgin Voyages, several dates on the schedule align closely with gaps in the recently announced Summer 2028 deployment, making this one of the strongest itinerary rumors we’ve seen.

If correct, it would mark Virgin Voyages’ return to Northern Europe after focusing exclusively on Mediterranean sailings during 2027.

Port of Amsterdam Schedule Updated

The Amsterdam cruise schedule has recently shown a Virgin Voyages ship arriving on the following dates with likely more to come:

  • 19 July 2028
  • 31 July 2028
  • 7 August 2028

Each visit is listed from 6:30 AM until 6:00 PM. That timing is particularly interesting because it closely matches what would typically be expected for embarkation and disembarkation rather than a traditional port call.

By comparison, Virgin Voyages’ scheduled Amsterdam visits during the 2026 season are either overnight stays, generally arriving around 6:00 PM before departing at approximately 5:00 PM the following day, or longer daytime visits lasting around twelve hours from 8am to 8pm.

The newly published timings instead resemble the operating window normally seen when a ship is beginning or ending a voyage.

Valiant Lady’s Empty Schedule & Resilient Lady Placeholder

The Amsterdam schedule currently lists Resilient Lady. Based on Virgin Voyages’ published deployment, Resilient Lady is not expected to spend Summer 2028 in Europe. Instead, Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady are currently scheduled to operate the European season.

Port schedules often use placeholder vessel names of similar ships before cruise lines finalize deployments, so we believe the listed ship is unlikely to reflect the eventual operating vessel.

Last week, Virgin Voyages announced the first phase of its Summer 2028 European deployment. At the time, we noted there were several unexplained gaps in the published schedule for Valiant Lady between July 9th and 4th September that appeared large enough to accommodate an additional series of voyages.

A Return to Northern Europe?

If the rumor proves correct, it would represent Virgin Voyages’ return to Northern Europe after taking a break from the region in 2027. Last year, the cruise line confirmed it would step away from Portsmouth and Northern Europe in favor of an entirely Mediterranean deployment. The appearance of Amsterdam on the 2028 schedule could therefore signal the beginning of a broader return north.

Many sailors were disappointed when Virgin Voyages paused UK and Northern Europe sailings, with hopes remaining high that destinations such as Amsterdam, Iceland and the British Isles would eventually return.

At this stage, Amsterdam is the only Northern European port we’ve found showing Virgin Voyages calls during Summer 2028.We’ve also checked several other destinations that Virgin Voyages has previously visited, but most ports have not yet published schedules this far in advance.

Not Officially Announced

It’s important to stress that Virgin Voyages has not officially announced any Northern Europe itineraries for Summer 2028. Port schedules can change, placeholder information is common, and deployments often evolve before voyages officially go on sale.

However, the combination of turnaround timings, dates that fit neatly into the published Summer 2028 deployment, and Amsterdam becoming the first Northern European port to publish Virgin Voyages calls makes this one of the strongest itinerary rumors we’ve seen in some time.

We’ll continue monitoring port schedules across Northern Europe and update this story as soon as additional dates or ports begin to appear.
