Virgin Voyages Drops UK and Iceland in 2027

Virgin Voyages will pause UK and Iceland sailings after 2026, marking the final Portsmouth departures before shifting focus to the Mediterranean.

As first noted in our coverage of the Resilient Lady Summer 2027 Itineraries, Virgin Voyages will not be returning to Portsmouth or Northern Europe in 2027. The upcoming 2026 season will be the final opportunity, for now, to sail from the UK or visit Iceland with Virgin Voyages.

Portsmouth’s Role in Virgin Voyages’ Journey

Since Scarlet Lady’s debut in 2021, Portsmouth has played a key role in Virgin Voyages’ story. The city has hosted every Lady Ship, most recently welcoming Brilliant Lady in August 2025. Earlier this year, Virgin Voyages highlighted its partnership with Portsmouth, describing it as a home for milestones and an important part of the brand’s growth. However, just days after that announcement, Portsmouth was missing from the 2027 itinerary release.

Speaking to VV Insider and other journalists, CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu said that while the UK market remains important, 2027 will see Virgin Voyages focus more on warmer European destinations. “What we found is that a lot of our UK sailors actually really like being in the Med,” said Mr Saverimuttu. “In 2027, it’s about taking them into some more exotic and more interesting destinations.”

This shift follows a number of adjustments to the 2026 Portsmouth program made earlier this year, shortly before Brilliant Lady’s visit.

First Visits to Iceland

Virgin Voyages reached Iceland for the first time in 2025 when Scarlet Lady visited Akureyri, Ísafjörður, and Reykjavik on her England to Iceland & Norway itinerary. The voyage marked a major milestone for the line’s Nordic expansion, giving travelers the chance to experience Iceland’s natural beauty and culture. Valiant Lady will return to Iceland again in 2026 as part of these final Northern Europe itineraries.

2027 Focus Shifts to the Mediterranean

The Scarlet Lady & Resilient Lady Summer 2027 Itineraries confirm a stronger focus on the Mediterranean. Sailings will include Italian and Adriatic routes, along with a special eclipse voyage to Tangier, Morocco. There are no UK or Iceland sailings currently scheduled, with the program focused entirely on the Med for the 2027 season.

Looking Ahead

Since 2021, more than 72,000 travelers have sailed through Portsmouth with Virgin Voyages. The city has become a symbol of the brand’s early years and growth in the UK. While the 2027 schedule moves away from Northern Europe, Virgin Voyages’ connection to Portsmouth and the British market remains strong, and there’s every reason to hope for a return in 2028.

For now, those wanting to sail from the UK can still experience one of these final 2026 departures from Portsmouth before the Lady Ships turn their focus south once again.

  1. Lorraine Foreman says:

Very disappointing !!! The Med in July & August is just too hot & crowded made sense to go to UK & do Northern Europe especially as it coincides with UK school holidays & meant we could travel on a child free ship in the Summer. Think that Virgin is slowly changing , not in a good way & very focused on the American market shame as I loved those early day 2021 to early 2023.

  2. Steve Riley-Snelling says:

We sailed from Portsmouth on this year’s Comedy Fest. Crossing the Bay of Biscay was a nightmare with 5 metre waves. We swore then that we’d never sail from Portsmouth again, so this is good news for us.

That said, we are sailing from Reykjavik to New York next September.

  3. Edward says:

We were looking forward to booking a 2027 VV cruise to Iceland and are very disappointed to hear this news. (2026 doesn’t fit our calendar as we already have the Miami-to-Los Angeles (via Panama Canal) Brilliant Lady cruise booked plus a land-based vacation in Asia.) Hopefully, they’ll bring back the northern cruises out of Portsmouth in 2028.

    1. Grey says:

At least we got to sail from Portsmouth to Iceland this year. We have already booked a Mediterranean sailing in September 26 so it’s not too bad for us.

  4. Maree says:

In Australia, we are just looking forward to a return one day when the Suez is safe again. We probably won’t see them for many years. It’s a long (and expensive) trip to the Med but we will try to do it again because we love the Virgin experience.

  5. Vicky says:

I have several cruises booked with virgin for 26/27 but have to stay what set them apart from other lines is slowly disappearing and having done most of the med I can’t see after the next few it’ll be worth doing anymore

    1. Julia says:

I agree completely Vicky. I booked a number of cruises in 2026/27 before the recent changes and once they’re done, there’s nothing new unless you want to go to the USA. It’s become really hard to recommend Virgin Voyages to friends with the way it seems to be going.

  6. Pat says:

I enjoyed the Iceland cruise – but it was just too cold. I see why they are focusing on the Med. Everyone cramped inside all the time isn’t the same experience.

  7. James says:

Virgin forgetting U.K. customers… first poor exchange rates and now dropping Portsmouth. Shame on the company … move to just profit.

  8. Claire says:

This makes me sad, but i have hope for 2027 because id like to visit Scandinavia with Virgin.

    1. Johanna Brown says:

Us too! So sad the one for next year visiting Norway and Sweden was cancelled from Portsmouth.
