Virgin Voyages Appoints New Head of Sales as Australian Focus Continues
Virgin Voyages has appointed a new Head of Sales for Australia and New Zealand, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the market.
Virgin Voyages has appointed David Clark as Head of Sales for Australia and New Zealand, continuing the cruise line’s renewed focus on the region following efforts earlier this year to rebuild its local presence.
As we reported in April, Virgin Voyages had begun expanding its Australian operations, recruiting for new sales roles and re-establishing local support for travel advisors. The appointment of Clark marks the latest step in that strategy and follows what appeared to be a broader effort to strengthen the cruise line’s presence in Australia and New Zealand.
David Clark Joins Virgin Voyages
Clark brings more than 20 years of experience across the travel and cruise sectors, having previously held senior roles with Tauck, Disney, Helloworld Travel and Carnival Australia. Most recently, he served as Managing Director Australia at Tauck.
In his new role, Clark will lead Virgin Voyages’ sales and commercial strategy across Australia and New Zealand, with a focus on supporting First Mates, growing distribution opportunities and increasing awareness of the brand.
“The brand has personality and delivers an experience that Sailors genuinely rave about. There’s already strong affinity for the Virgin brand across Australia and New Zealand, and more travellers are seeking premium, kid-free holiday experiences. That makes this an incredibly exciting market for Virgin Voyages.”
Matt Lebbern, Director of Sales, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, described Australia and New Zealand as among Virgin Voyages’ strongest international source markets.
“Australia and New Zealand have embraced Virgin Voyages from day one and continue to be among our strongest international source markets globally. That speaks to the strength of the brand, the appetite for a different kind of cruise experience and the incredible support of our First Mate community.”
That statement is notable given Virgin Voyages has not operated a ship in the region since Resilient Lady’s 2023/24 season.

A Continued Investment in Australia
The appointment further reinforces comments made by Virgin Voyages executives over the past year that Australia remains an important market for the brand, despite the cancellation of Resilient Lady’s planned 2024/25 return.
Virgin Voyages has previously described Australia as an “enduring opportunity” and has highlighted the number of Australian Sailors continuing to book voyages in Europe, the Caribbean and Alaska. Earlier trade reporting also suggested Australia and New Zealand remain among Virgin Voyages’ strongest international source markets.
While the latest announcement strengthens the company’s commercial presence in the region, it does not include any plans for ships to return to Australia or New Zealand.
No Return of Ships Announced
For now, the focus appears to remain on growing brand awareness and supporting travel advisors rather than announcing new local sailings.
Virgin Voyages currently has itineraries on sale into 2028, with ships committed across the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Alaska and North America.
As a result, any return of homeported Australian voyages would likely require future deployment changes that have not yet been announced.
Still, the appointment of a dedicated regional sales leader is another sign that Virgin Voyages continues to see long-term potential in Australia and New Zealand, even if a return of ships remains some way off.
