Virgin Voyages has reaffirmed its investment in Portsmouth, with Brilliant Lady set to visit the city for the very first time from 18th August till 21st August. The milestone means Portsmouth will become the first port in the world to properly welcome all four Lady Ships, marking a unique achievement in the brand’s global expansion.

The Full Fleet Comes to Portsmouth

The summer season begins with the long-awaited return of Scarlet Lady on 27 July, her first visit since launching from the city in August 2021. She’ll be followed by Brilliant Lady, arriving for a series of technical and media events before continuing her journey to New York.

Since 2021, Virgin Voyages has chosen Portsmouth as its UK home. Valiant Lady debuted in March 2022, and Resilient Lady made an appearance in 2024, sailing past with an illuminated “Pompey” message during the city’s Victorious Festival.

“Portsmouth has become a meaningful part of our journey. It’s where we introduced Scarlet Lady to the world and, four years later, where we’re celebrating the arrival of Brilliant Lady. Along the way, our full fleet of Lady Ships has passed through. The city has welcomed us from the start and been a great partner. As we continue to expand globally, it feels right to mark these milestones in a place that reflects our values, shares our maritime spirit and has supported us every step of the way.” – CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu

A Meaningful Economic Impact

With more than 90 cruise calls expected this year, Portsmouth International Port is preparing for its busiest cruise season yet. Each Virgin Voyages visit is estimated to generate up to £1.5 million for the local economy through spending, tariffs and supply chain benefits.

Portsmouth International Port is owned by Portsmouth City Council, with profits used to fund local services. In 2025, the port is expected to contribute £10.3 million to the council’s budget.

“The investment we have seen from the port’s partnership with Virgin Voyages has had a resounding impact on the city. For residents, having the city as the port of such a distinguished brand is an exciting recognition and we are proud that Virgin chose to make Portsmouth their home.” – Cllr Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council

A New Way to Cruise from the UK

Since the first partnership in 2021, more than 72,000 Virgin Voyages sailors have sailed through Portsmouth. This year’s sailings include six to 13-night itineraries to destinations like Reykjavik and Morocco, along with special comedy and themed voyages.

“Virgin Voyages’ fresh approach to cruising brings a new demographic through the terminal, who get to experience all the brilliant benefits of travelling from Portsmouth.” – Port Director Mike Sellers
