Virgin Voyages has released version 2.0 of its mobile app, bringing long-awaited access for Android users while also updating the iOS version with added features and a new name for the old platform.

What Changes With The New App

This week, the previous app on Android was renamed to the “Original Sailor App.” At the same time, the new Virgin Voyages app remains available as a separate download in app stores. Future development will now focus entirely on this updated version.

On both platforms, the app has been rebuilt using native technologies designed to improve speed, stability, and responsiveness. The layout will look familiar but several areas have been enhanced:

  • A redesigned home screen with a simplified voyage countdown
  • Updated event listings with easier navigation
  • A more consistent design across account and settings sections

Android Release Now Live

Android users have been waiting since the iOS launch earlier this year. With the rollout of version 2.0, the Virgin Voyages app is now available on Android devices for the first time.

Shake for Champagne Now Available

One of the headline features, Shake for Champagne, is now built into both versions. Ship Eats room service is the final holdout from the old app, but this also is on the in-room tablets across the fleet as we previously reported.

What Happens to the Original Sailor App

The “Original Sailor App” will remain in app stores for now, but Virgin Voyages has confirmed it will be removed once all key features have transitioned. The new app will be the focus of updates going forward. Sailors are encouraged to no longer use the old app where possible.

A More Reliable Digital Hub

The first launch of the new app on iOS did come with stability issues, but these have improved greatly in recent months. With Android support now in place and iOS enhancements continuing, the Virgin Voyages app is positioned to be a more reliable experience going forward.

The new app is much, much better. After some launch wobbles (slow loading, timeouts etc) it’s stabilised into a much faster, easier experience, and onboard it’s been much more reliable too. I know it took a long time to rebuild, but it feels like it was really worth it.
