Virgin Voyages New York Sailings Move Port Terminal

Virgin Voyages has moved its 2026 New York sailings to Brooklyn after Pier 90 issues reduced capacity at Manhattan Cruise Terminal.

The change has been widely discussed across Virgin Voyages Facebook groups over the past week after sailors began noticing their bookings updating from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Those updates have now been officially confirmed, with the sailings moving across the East River due to ongoing issues affecting the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.

Virgin Voyages had originally planned to operate these sailings from Manhattan, the same port used last year when Brilliant Lady visited New York.

Pier 90 Shutdown Reduces Manhattan Cruise Capacity

The move comes as the Manhattan Cruise Terminal faces infrastructure limitations. Earlier this year it was confirmed that Pier 90 is no longer able to accept cruise ships, leaving Pier 88 as the terminal’s only functioning berth.

According to local reporting by W42ST, Pier 92 has also been inactive for several years due to structural issues. With only one operational pier currently available, the terminal’s capacity to accommodate multiple cruise ships has been significantly reduced.

The city is already planning a long term redevelopment of the Manhattan Cruise Terminal that would replace aging piers and modernize the facility, but those plans are still in early stages.

In the meantime, shifting sailings to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal provides additional capacity while Manhattan’s infrastructure issues are addressed.

2026 Voyages Affected

The change affects all currently scheduled 2026 sailings operated by Valiant Lady from New York.

April 2026

September 2026

October 2026

These voyages were originally expected to operate from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal but are now assigned to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook.

Final Season for Virgin Voyages Sailings from New York

These 2026 voyages will also mark the final season for Virgin Voyages departures from New York for the foreseeable future.

The cruise line currently has no sailings scheduled from New York in 2027 and is not expected to return until at least 2028. That makes the 2026 sailings the last opportunity, for now, to start a Virgin Voyages cruise directly from New York City.

The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is located in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn and regularly hosts cruise ships from several major lines.

Will the embarkation process be the same in Brooklyn? Drop bags early if you want, and return at your scheduled boarding time? Does it make sense to arrive early to clear security prior to checking in?

    1. Rob Sammons says:

This is pretty much the process globally for Virgin Voyages so should be.

  2. Sally Ingram says:

Any recommendations on hotels to stay at in Brooklyn?

  3. Chuck Brasher says:

Although the itinerary on VV app still says that the cruise out of San Juan on March 28 is arriving at the Manhattan Port on April 6, I assume that it is actually arriving at the Brooklyn Port. The Valiant Lady sailing out on the 6th is out of Brooklyn so that seems safe to assume but VV only sent something to sailors sailing out of New York, not to sailors arriving on the 6th. Can you confirm that my assumption is correct?

    1. Rob Sammons says:

Correct, Brooklyn is the only port being used this year.

  4. Gina says:

Do we know if this change is also going to be affecting cruises arriving back into New York at the end of their sailing? Eg the Iceland, Greenland, Canada & NYC which isn’t listed above?

    1. Rob Sammons says:

Yes it will as the port for embarking and disembarking is the same so the September 19th voyage above reflects this

      1. Gina says:

        Sweet thanks Rob!

    2. Neil says:

Yes, I’m on that sailing too, The Manhattan Pier Virgin used is closed for repairs so we have to use Brooklyn

  5. Sue says:

Very glad I saw this page. I was able to rebook my night before room to something within walking distance from the port.

  6. Sue says:

So glad I hit upon this page! Just rebooked my hotel to something within walking distance of the port. Thank you!

  7. Dan says:

So glad I booked my hotel within walking distance of the Manhattan Cruise Port….

    1. Anna Politan says:

Same! Just cancelled it and booked another in Brooklyn. Farther away from cruise terminal, but also typically less expensive over there. I’m just glad I didn’t book Broadway show tickets. I’d like to stay in one borough for a one day trip…
