As reported by The Independent, an altercation took place during a recent voyage on Virgin Voyages’ Resilient Lady out of San Juan. While discussions on Reddit suggested the incident occurred during the We Fancy golden party, The Independent states that the altercation happened at the On the Rocks bar in the early hours of March 31.

While incidents like this are rare on Virgin Voyages, and most sailings take place without issue, this is not the first report of onboard disputes in recent weeks. Various forums and social media discussions have highlighted concerns about sailor behavior on some recent sailings. However, it is important to note that the vast majority of sailors enjoy their cruises without any disruptions.

According to The Independent, the altercation involved a disagreement that escalated between two passengers, ultimately leading to an arrest by the FBI when Resilient Lady arrived in San Juan, Puerto Rico on April 1. The incident took place in international waters, and ship security reported the matter to authorities upon arrival. Virgin Voyages has not yet released a statement regarding the situation and did not respond to The Independent when asked to comment.

Although situations like these can gain attention, they remain uncommon within the cruise industry. Virgin Voyages is known for its adult-only atmosphere and emphasis on relaxation, entertainment, and unique experiences. Most travelers continue to report positive experiences on board, with these incidents representing an exception rather than the norm.

For those interested in the full details, The Independent’s report provides further context and information on the case.

So…. It is unfortunate that this incident occurred. I was on that cruise, and if it is the person I am thinking of, “M.A” was, in my opinion, disruptive and a distraction at most of the events we attended. He would dance (and barefoot); at one event, threw himself on the floor, maybe trying to breakdance?!?? Only succeeding in knocking off his own glasses. My husband and I left early from one performance because it was difficult to enjoy the band playing without seeing this guy basically being a buffoon in the periphery. Nobody should be physically assaulted…but…I get it.

Perhaps Mr. DeGiorgio had the unlimited drink package and was just trying to “break-even” on the last night. At least he won a post cruise excursion with private transportation.

    1. Ali says:

There is no such thing as unlimited drink packages on Virgin. This isn’t carnival.

They are actually trialling this now and the mentioned person may have been Mega Rockstar which is unlimited drinks https://vvinsider.com/virgin-voyages-continues-trialing-unlimited-drinks-package-on-april-may-sailings/

We were Rock Stars on this cruise.
So we are home safe and sound.
However we were not aware of this incident that took place on our last night of the cruise. We were planning to go to this event but we were too tired and needed to pack to have our bags out earlier to disembarkation the next morning. We are so glad we were not there to witness this fight in the event bar for Fancy Night.
“A 53-year-old man on a Caribbean cruise with his wife is facing federal charges after choking out a fellow passenger for dancing barefoot in one of the ship’s cocktail lounges, according to a criminal complaint reviewed by The Independent.
Kenneth DeGiorgio was arrested by FBI agents after the adults-only Virgin Voyages ship, Resilient Lady, docked Tuesday in San Juan, Puerto Rico. DeGiorgio is accused of grabbing the barefoot victim around his neck and threatening to “f**king kill” him, the complaint states.
It describes DeGiorgio as “a heavy-set white male,” and says his shoeless target, identified in court filings by the initials M.A., “felt as if his throat was going to be ripped out.” The incident, which allegedly began when DeGiorgio’s wife told the victim to put his shoes back on, took place in international waters, approximately 70 nautical miles west of Fort-De-France, Martinique, according to the complaint.
DiGiorgio, the CEO of a Southern California mortgage lender, according to public records, does not yet have an attorney listed on the docket. He and his wife did not respond on Wednesday to emails and voicemails seeking comment.
Messages sent to a spokesperson for billionaire Richard Branson’s Virgin Voyages went unanswered.

You being “Rock Star” on the cruise has absolutely nothing to do with anything. Do you feel better now gloating for attention….

Doesn’t really matter mentioning Rockstar or not. @Shirley mentioned more details than any other commenter. The man accused of choking the victim deserves whatever he gets. That is assault!
