As Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a powerful Category 5 storm, Virgin Voyages shared a message expressing concern and support for the island. “We’re holding the island and its people close in our thoughts as we await news and begin to understand the storm’s impact,” the cruise line said, describing Jamaica’s “warmth and incredible spirit” as what makes it “such a beloved destination across the Caribbean.”The storm has caused the line to adjust one of its upcoming itineraries, originally scheduled to include the brand’s first-ever call to Ocho Rios.

Brilliant Lady’s Revised Itinerary

“To ensure everyone’s safety, Brilliant Lady will need to adjust course. Instead of calling at Ocho Rios, Jamaica, on Monday, Nov. 3, we’ll now sail to Cozumel, Mexico, arriving at 9 AM and departing at 9 PM,” Virgin Voyages confirmed in its update for sailors on the 1st November 2025 sailing from Miami.

Those with pre-booked Shore Things in Ocho Rios will receive automatic refunds, and new Shore Things for Cozumel will soon be available in the Virgin Voyages App.

“This voyage aboard Brilliant Lady was meant to mark our inaugural call to Jamaica, a milestone both our Sailors and Crew were looking forward to celebrating alongside the local community,” the statement continued.

The company also noted that it will support post-storm relief efforts through a donation to local recovery initiatives.

Potential Future Adjustments

While Brilliant Lady’s itinerary was the first to be officially changed, further schedule adjustments may be possible as assessments continue across the region. Resilient Lady is currently due to call at Ocho Rios in the coming weeks, and Virgin Voyages is expected to monitor local recovery progress before confirming whether those visits can proceed as planned.

For now, the cruise line continues to prioritize safety and operational readiness while expressing its hope to “visit the island soon” once conditions allow. Jamaica is on track to open cruise operations again in December, Virgin Voyages has shared the following with upcoming sailors:

We know your upcoming voyage includes a planned call to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and we want you to know that it’s top of mind for us. We’re following the news closely and are in contact with our partners in Jamaica to assess the storm’s effects on future sailings.

As we learn more about conditions on
the island and in the surrounding region, we’ll share updates on any potential itinerary adjustments. Our priority, as always, is the safety of you (our Sailors) and our Crew.

In the meantime, we’ll be supporting local recovery efforts through a donation to post-storm relief initiatives to help this incredible destination and community.

We’ll be in touch soon with any further updates

When can we expect to hear something about schedule changes for Jamaica Nov 22, 2025?

    1. Rob Sammons says:

Unclear at this time, it’s been about 4 days before for the affected sailing so far.

  2. Erby Brown says:

Does anyone know how this will affect the voyage for the Resilient Lady on the 22nd of November? If we will be going to somewhere like Cozumel or something, it would be nice to know so that we can make plans for an excursion or something while we are there as well.

  3. Dianna T says:

I agree with this sentiment. If I am going to Jamaica after this terrible hurricane I would love to offer my time to help wherever needed. I can’t sit on a beach knowing that others are struggling, but that’s just the way I am built.

  4. Rob says:

    Hi
Has anybody else received an email from Virgin to say that the 12 night Colorful Curacao to the Charming Caymans cruise is now departing from Puerto Rico and not Miami?

This will totally screw up a lot of peoples plans including mine as we fly to Miami on Wednesday !

    1. Julie Cole says:

Same here. We will probably cancel. So sad.

    2. CHRIS says:

You should have gotten another saying it was a mistake. It was for the Valiant lady.

  5. Brodie Aedan Taylor-Moray says:

I would love instead of visiting Jamaica we are able to get there somehow and work doentej day to offer clean up . Food service perhaps and spend our day helping. Or perhaps Virgin donate the days bookings or other costs of the day cancellation to the relief fund.

    1. Brodie says:

Donate your time and money. The last thing I want to do on vacation is work.

When will we be notified of the change?

      1. Rob Sammons says:

It’s an ongoing situation, for the November 8th sailing sailors were let know around 5 days in advance of their dates

  7. Joe says:

Any news regarding the March sailing? Looking at the devastation it will likely take a good few months to get back to normal.

These Islands are resilient and bounce back much faster than here in the USA. They plan on re-opening by 12/15/25
