Virgin Voyages is introducing dedicated Rockstar seating inside Gunbae, giving Rockstar and Mega Rockstar sailors guaranteed seating and more consistent service during busy breakfast periods.

The setup was first spotted aboard Valiant Lady. VV Insider spoke with the attendant managing the area, who said the concept is expected to roll out across the Virgin Voyages fleet.

The change comes as crowding in The Galley has become more noticeable at breakfast, particularly on busy port mornings when many sailors are trying to eat at the same time.

How the Rockstar Seating Works

The reserved area is inside Gunbae, which is directly attached to The Galley. Because of its location, Gunbae naturally provides additional seating during breakfast and lunch when the restaurant is not otherwise in use.

Part of that space is now reserved for Rockstars and Mega Rockstars. An attendant checks for black wristbands at the entrance, while a dedicated server and assistant provide table service. This gives suite sailors a guaranteed place to sit when breakfast is busy.

The arrangement is primarily used during breakfast but can extend into the lunch period. Gunbae continues to operate normally for its Korean BBQ dinner service.

Some Sailors Question the Change

The arrangement attracted some criticism when it first appeared aboard Valiant Lady. An initial Reddit discussion suggested part of The Galley had been made exclusive to Rockstars, with some sailors questioning the decision while breakfast seating can already be under pressure.

However, sailors onboard clarified that the reserved area was actually at the back of Gunbae.

“It’s the very very back tables of Gunbae that are reserved for rockstars. It’s a pretty good solution really and there was still plenty of empty tables in Gunbae at breakfast time.”

Arguably, the change creates more of a two-class system by reserving some seating that was previously available to everyone. However, Gunbae was not typically entirely full even when being used as overflow, and other sailors can continue to use the remaining tables.

Virgin Voyages Continues to Test Dining Changes

The Rockstar seating is another change as Virgin Voyages looks for ways to ease dining pressure and make better use of available space onboard.

The cruise line is also introducing Shared Tables, allowing sailors to opt into dining with other parties and helping restaurants make better use of larger tables. Meanwhile, Virtual Dining Queues allow sailors to join restaurant waitlists through the app rather than waiting outside for a table.

For Rockstars and Mega Rockstars, the Gunbae arrangement offers another practical solution by providing guaranteed breakfast seating and consistent service. VV Insider understands from speaking with the attendant aboard Valiant Lady that the concept is expected to roll out across the fleet.
