Virgin Voyages’ Smaller Wearable Bands Now Rolling Out
Virgin Voyages is now rolling out a smaller, simplified version of its wearable band, starting with Scarlet Lady sailings.
Virgin Voyages has started rolling out its redesigned wearable bands to guests on Scarlet Lady. The new version is noticeably smaller and no longer includes the playful phrases that previously appeared on the back of the band, something many guests had grown fond of.
Changes to the Wearable
The updated band is around 40% smaller and has dropped the unused long-range technology found in earlier versions. Virgin Voyages has confirmed that these components were never really activated onboard, with features like Shake for Champagne handled through the Virgin Voyages app instead.
What remains is a streamlined, more sustainable version that keeps all the core functions. The band still acts as your room key, onboard charge method, and check in system, including for areas like Richard’s Rooftop if you’re staying in a Rockstar suite.
Same Strap, Smaller Tech
While the tech module has changed in shape and size, the red rope strap made from BIONIC® yarn remains the same. This material is created using coastal and marine plastic waste, and each band still represents the equivalent of half a recycled plastic bottle.
Guests are encouraged to keep the strap as a memento and return the tech portion for recycling at the end of their voyage.

Rollout Progress
Scarlet Lady has now begun issuing the smaller version. Resilient Lady is still giving out the larger band, and it’s currently unknown if Valiant Lady has transitioned. On Scarlet Lady, Rockstar guests are still receiving the larger band for now.
This change is expected to become standard across the fleet later this year and will likely be the default by the time Brilliant Lady enters service in September.
Side-by-Side Comparison
As seen in the photos above, the new band:
- Is smaller and more compact
- No longer features printed phrases on the back
- Retains the same strap and loop design
We’ll continue monitoring the rollout across ships and share any updates on when each ship fully switches over.
