Take a first look at Virgin Voyages’ new VoyageFair Choices system as we explain the booking process, fare differences, and gratuity options.

Virgin Voyages has rolled out its new pricing system, VoyageFair Choices, across all new bookings. This first look explores how the new Base, Essential, and Premium fares work and what has changed during the booking process.

First Look at the Booking Process

The process for selecting your cabin remains the same. Once you’ve chosen your cabin type, you’ll be asked to pick a VoyageFair Choice, unless you select a Lock-It-In Rate which is not compatible with the new system.

After selecting your cabin, you can choose between the three VoyageFair Choices. Pricing displayed on the page now starts at the Base fare. From early observations, Base fares are around 5–10% cheaper than Essential rates. Essential fares remain roughly the same as before, while Premium fares are priced at $45 per person per night higher.

Changes at Checkout

The checkout process is largely the same, but now includes a new option to pre-pay gratuities. The pre-paid price is slightly lower than paying on board. If you tick this box, gratuities are added directly to your booking. If you skip it, you can still add them later in the Virgin Voyages app. This option will appear for all fares, although it shows as sold out for Legacy Fares.

The New System

The new system has proven controversial, but Virgin Voyages is moving forward with its rollout for all new bookings. Anyone booked before October 7 will continue to receive the same experience as before with legacy fares.

If you’re unsure which option is best or need help understanding the system, we’re happy to assist.

Price Tracker Updates

We’ve also updated our Price Tracker to support the new VoyageFair Choice system. It now lists Base as the lowest price within each category, and we’ve added a toggle to include gratuities in the prices displayed. We’ll continue refining this in the future to include all fare types where possible, so stay tuned for improvements.

How they operate isn’t an answer. They can’t legally refuse to removevl them nor can they harass yiu dor doing so but I agree genuinely many people myself included always prefer to give cash. I always take $ even on UK cruises as exchange rate is better for most crew and I can highlight excellent service .I don’t feel I need to tip all crew although they are as important should receive a salary they were happy to have and should be fairly paid by the company. Paying your own way is reasonable enough to remove added gratuities.

    1. Rob Sammons says:

You’ll need to speak to Sailor Services to remove.

I agree. I abhor the compulsory tipping culture that is so rampant in the US where hospitality workers are not paid well and have to bow and scrape to customers to supplement their income to meet their basic needs. It is a retrograde move for Virgin to highlight it in the prepaid fares or as an extra onboard.
Where I live, wdo not have such a prolific tipping culture and this expectation from global travellers is insulting and demeaning to the workers. Companies should pay their workers a decent salary and we as customers should pay for the experience of a cruise.
On principle, I would like to refuse to pay gratuities but I know there would be some sort of retribution albeit subtle!
      Bad move, Virgin!

They opened the dining booking today for my December cruise. Want a joke and waste of time as the events were not available so I have no idea what I will want to do on which days so waste of time ams it’s definitely not a special perk to.have . I have no idea what I what to eat tomorrow night nebe mind months ahead. If at least the events were available then you could make a choice right now wate of time .

    1. Rob Sammons says:

The event line up is running behind but is also never complete until a few days before. Most shows are 8 and 10pm, we don’t have an event line up example yet since the ship is new but here’s the events https://vvinsider.com/events-on-brilliant-lady/

    2. Jon says:

It tells you in the app, major shows are at 7.30/8pm and again at 10pm.

  3. Hbhoogy says:

I always promoted VIRGIN CRUISES as offering a totally included package with tips included, and no big Bill at the end. Can’t say that anymore. No we will be paying the fair, which would most likely Now be a little higher than it was in the past and then we’ll have to add onto that the gratuities. And gratuities are the same as any other cruise line. This is sad because it was a big selling feature.

    1. Maree says:

I totally agree. They are subtly moving towards sameness with other lines and it was the edge that set them apart. There will be a tipping point and then we will look elsewhere.

  4. Kieran says:

Did they ever answer if it will be possible to ask for gratuities to be removed at SS at end of the cruise? I feel like lots will, if it is possible.

    1. Rob Sammons says:

Yes they did. If gratuities haven’t been prepaid, Sailor Services will handle it onboard. In most cases they’ll discourage opting out and instead look to resolve any concerns, since gratuities are part of how Virgin operates: https://vvinsider.com/guides-and-faqs/guide/tipping-gratuities/

      1. James says:

And that officially marks Virgin just being like any other cruise line now. Part of the appeal was that you didn’t have to have that conversation because everyone was “looked after” – sad.

  5. Glen Hendy says:

The gratuities are added to your folio if you choose to pay onboard, does this mean sailor loot would cover them? 🤔

    1. Rob Sammons says:

Hey Glen, yes you can pay using Sailor Loot on board but you would be paying the extra $2 per person per night.

      1. Brodie Aedan Taylor-Moray says:

Bit they did mention crew do not benefit from this enhanced rate which is therfore just bad and will leave a bad taste in many there’s no need to demand pre pay unmemorable gratuities ans punish by charging more which yiu will see the long queues to get them removed on board.

        1. Rob Sammons says:

Crew are paid the same today as they were before, it’s not an enhanced rate, it was already part of your fare.
