Virgin Voyages Launches “Rovey” AI Planning/Onboard Assistant with Google Cloud
Virgin Voyages launches Rovey, a Google Cloud powered AI assistant for planning, personalization, and future onboard experiences.

Virgin Voyages has unveiled Rovey, a new AI-powered planning assistant designed to help travelers research and organize their cruise before boarding. Announced at Google Cloud Next in Las Vegas, Rovey is the latest step in Virgin Voyages’ growing partnership with Google Cloud and follows the wider AI collaboration first revealed in 2025.
According to Virgin Voyages, Rovey will soon appear on VirginVoyages.com and help travelers compare itineraries, explore cabins, discover Shore Things, and plan key parts of their trip with personalized recommendations.
“Rovey brings that same energy to the part of the trip that happens before Sailors cross the gangway.” – Nathan Rosenberg, Chief Brand Experience, Marketing and Momentum Officer at Virgin Voyages

Two Sides Of The Experience
Rovey appears to represent two connected parts of the Virgin Voyages journey.
The Sailor Journey
The first is the pre-sailing experience, helping travelers choose voyages, compare cabins, review Shore Things, and organize plans before departure. This could be especially useful for first-time cruisers trying to understand the Virgin Voyages product.

The Crew Journey
The second is the onboard experience, where screenshots suggest crew could potentially access useful preference details such as favorite drinks, celebrations, prior history and upcoming reservations to help personalize service once sailors are on board. Virgin Voyages has positioned Rovey as a branded “digital crew member”, adding more personality to the planning process rather than presenting it as a standard support tool.
If delivered well, that could help connect the booking journey with the in-person hospitality Virgin Voyages is known for.
Part Of A Bigger AI Rollout
Rovey is described as the first public launch from Project Ruby, Virgin Voyages’ broader AI initiative with Google Cloud.
The cruise line says multiple AI tools are planned across the full sailor journey, from initial trip discovery through to the onboard experience.
This builds on Virgin Voyages’ earlier AI push, where the company introduced internal tools across marketing and operations.

Where Human Advice Still Matters
Tools like Rovey could be useful for comparing voyages, learning cabin types, or getting quick answers during the planning process.
However, many travelers still benefit from real-world advice when choosing the right cabin location, understanding fare flexibility, comparing promotions, or knowing what the onboard experience is actually like.
That is where experienced First Mates and independent resources such as VV Insider continue to play an important role, offering practical insight shaped by real voyages and firsthand experience.
Launching Soon
Virgin Voyages says Rovey will launch soon on VirginVoyages.com. It will be one to watch, especially for first-time cruisers looking for a more guided way to plan their trip.
