Virgin Voyages Cancels Resilient Lady Voyage Before 2027 Dry Dock
Virgin Voyages has canceled Resilient Lady’s August 2027 Mediterranean sailing. Here’s what affected sailors need to know and why the schedule change appears linked to the ship’s upcoming dry dock.

Virgin Voyages has canceled Resilient Lady’s scheduled Western Med: Barcelona to Rome voyage departing on 8 August 2027. Affected sailors received notification emails over the weekend outlining the options now available to them.
While Virgin Voyages has not publicly explained the reason for the cancellation, our analysis suggests the decision has been made to provide additional time ahead of the ship’s planned 2027 dry dock but it remains unclear.
Sailors Offered Two Options
In emails sent to booked sailors, Virgin Voyages confirmed that the voyage would no longer “operate as scheduled” and outlined two available options. Sailors can either transfer to another eligible sailing or request a full refund.
- Transfer to another eligible 10 or 11-night Mediterranean voyage departing from Barcelona or Athens, with full fare and promotional protection and a $100 onboard credit.
- Receive a 100% refund of the paid voyage fare to the original form of payment.
Sailors have until 9 August 2026 to make their selection. If no choice is made by that date, Virgin Voyages says bookings will automatically be canceled and refunded.
Cancellation Appears Linked to Dry Dock Preparations
Although Virgin Voyages has not confirmed why the sailing was removed, there are several indications that the cancellation is intended to provide additional time before Resilient Lady enters her scheduled 2027 dry dock.
As we previously reported at VV Insider, Resilient Lady is scheduled to undergo her first major dry dock between 17 August and 2 September 2027. First Mate documentation confirms that guests sailing from September onwards will experience a “newly refreshed Resilient Lady” following her maintenance period.
The canceled voyage would have originally concluded in Rome on 17 August 2027, however this now leaves a much bigger gap.
Following this latest schedule change, Resilient Lady’s final public voyage before entering dry dock will instead be the 11-night Solar Eclipse: Spain, Portugal & Morocco sailing. The voyage departs Barcelona on 28 July 2027 and returns on 8 August 2027, effectively giving Virgin Voyages an additional nine days before the previously announced maintenance window begins.
Voyage Had Been Missing From Sale Since May
The cancellation may not come as a complete surprise. According to our voyage tracking, the Western Med: Barcelona to Rome sailing quietly disappeared from sale in May 2026, several months before affected sailors received cancellation emails.
Virgin Voyages never publicly announced any changes during that period, but the voyage remained unavailable for new bookings. That suggests planning for the cancellation had already begun well in advance of this week’s announcement.
Valiant Lady’s 2.0 Glow Up Learnings?
The additional time may also reflect lessons learned during Valiant Lady’s 2.0 glow up, which introduced one of the most extensive refreshes the fleet has seen.
Valiant Lady emerged from dry dock with refreshed public spaces, redesigned venues, accessibility improvements and numerous cabin enhancements. Completing work of that scale within a tight schedule leaves little room for unexpected delays or operational changes.
By creating a larger buffer before Resilient Lady arrives at the shipyard, Virgin Voyages gains additional flexibility for positioning the vessel, preparing contractors and ensuring maintenance work begins on schedule.
What Could Change During Dry Dock?
Virgin Voyages has not yet revealed what updates Resilient Lady will receive, but previous dry docks provide a good indication of what sailors can expect. Recent glow ups across the fleet have included both essential maintenance work and noticeable guest-facing improvements.
- Refreshed public spaces and updated finishes.
- Accessibility improvements around the pool deck.
- Enhancements to The Athletic Club.
- Cabin refreshes with updated soft furnishings.
- A completely reimagined Razzle Dazzle restaurant concept like Lucky Lotus, Rojo and Ariya.

First Sailing After Dry Dock
Following her scheduled maintenance, Resilient Lady is expected to return to service on 2 September 2027 with the 10-night Italy, Spain & French Riviera voyage sailing round-trip from Barcelona.
The itinerary includes calls at Marseille, Cannes, Ajaccio, Rome (Civitavecchia), Salerno, Palermo and Cagliari before returning to Barcelona. According to First Mate documentation, sailors joining this voyage will be among the first to experience the ship following her 2027 glow up.
For those still looking to sail on Resilient Lady during this period, this voyage is the first opportunity to experience the ship’s refreshed public spaces, updated venues and other enhancements following dry dock.

Overview
Virgin Voyages has not officially confirmed the reason behind the cancellation, but the evidence points strongly toward preparations for Resilient Lady’s scheduled 2027 dry dock.
As Virgin Voyages shares more details about Resilient Lady’s upcoming glow up, VV Insider will continue to report on the expected enhancements and the ship’s return to service in September 2027.
