Virgin Voyages is changing how group bookings work, with a new unified Groups Program launching on June 3, 2026. The updated program brings together parts of the previous Groups and Circles structures into one simpler system. It is designed to give First Mates and those looking for group travel more flexibility when holding cabins, protecting pricing, and building group bookings over time.

For sailors, the main change is that group bookings should become easier to organize, with clearer perks, longer hold options, and the ability to combine the program with My Next Virgin Voyage placeholders.

What Counts As A Group?

Under the new program, a Virgin Voyages group starts at 8 cabins on the same sailing.

  • Small Groups cover 8 to 16 cabins
  • Large Groups cover 17 to 75 cabins
  • Groups above 75 cabins are handled separately as contracted groups

What Changed From The Old Groups Program?

Virgin Voyages previously had more than one approach for group travel. The public Groups program was aimed at sailors sailing together who were booking in smaller groups or directly, while Circles was a First Mate only option that some travel advisors used to hold space and protect pricing.

The older Groups program generally started at 8 cabins and could include group Bar Tab, group dining requests, eligible fare discounts, and shorter hold periods.

The new program merges these approaches into one clearer framework. Groups still begin at 8 cabins, but anyone can now hold up to 75 cabins with no deposit required outside the recall window. The updated structure also includes price and promotion protection, Group Bar Tab, dining support, and greater flexibility when planning group travel.

Longer Holds And Better Price Protection

One of the biggest changes is the hold structure. Previously, groups generally operated with shorter protection windows and limited hold flexibility. The new system allows cabins to be held without a deposit until the recall window.

  • Small Groups have a 120 day recall window
  • Large Groups have a 150 day recall window
  • Once a cabin is named, the standard deposit applies

The fare and eligible promotion are locked when the group is created. This means pricing can remain protected even if fares increase later.

Now Combinable With My Next Virgin Voyage

The new Groups Program is also combinable with My Next Virgin Voyage placeholders. This is one of the most notable changes. Under the previous public Groups setup, sailors often needed to choose between MNVV and group drinks credit. The new structure creates more flexibility to stack onboard value, although individual promotions may still have their own terms and conditions.

Group Bar Tab Benefits Have Changed

Group sailors now receive a per cabin Group Bar Tab based on the voyage length.

  • 10 nights or longer: $200 per cabin
  • 6 to 9 nights: $100 per cabin
  • 5 nights or less: $50 per cabin

This is a reduction from the previous Groups program, where drinks credit could reach up to $300 per cabin on longer voyages.

Dining Support For Groups

The new program includes Group Dining Concierge support, with assistance based on voyage length.

  • 10 nights or longer: up to 3 dinner reservations
  • 6 to 9 nights: up to 2 dinner reservations
  • 5 nights or less: up to 1 dinner reservation

This replaces the older setup where groups typically requested one coordinated dining experience, subject to availability.

As always, dining availability may vary depending on restaurant demand, timing, and group size.

Existing Groups Stay Protected

Virgin Voyages says groups created under previous programs before June 3, 2026 will keep their original benefits and recall windows. This means existing groups are not automatically moved into the new structure and remain protected under the rules they were originally booked under.

Group Below 8 Cabins?

If you have fewer than 8 cabins, you will not qualify for the official Groups Program, but you can still coordinate travel together. At VV Insider, we regularly help smaller groups align bookings, choose nearby cabins, coordinate dining plans, and make sure everything is linked correctly.

How To Plan A Virgin Voyages Group

If you are planning a birthday, reunion, celebration, bachelor or bachelorette trip, or simply traveling with friends, the updated Groups Program may make it easier to secure cabins early and protect pricing while plans come together.
