Virgin Voyages’ Sailing Club Perks May End Early

Virgin Voyages’ Sailing Club perks may end early in 2025. A new token-based loyalty system could replace the current structure.

UPDATE: Virgin Voyages has confirmed “perks will remain valid/available for all 2025 sailings. Match and Sea More promotion is currently scheduled to end on Oct 31.” The terms and conditions update appears to list the incorrect date.

Virgin Voyages’ Sailing Club was originally set to run until the end of 2025 but recent updates suggest the timeline may have changed. According to the latest terms (updated 01/22/2025), Sailing Club perks like Blue Extras and Deep Blue Extras are now set to expire on October 31, 2025, rather than at the end of the year.

What’s Changing?

Previously, these perks were available on all eligible voyages through the end of 2025. The new terms indicate that they will now only be offered until October 31, 2025. While there’s no official announcement yet, this shift suggests that Virgin Voyages may be preparing to introduce a new version of the Sailing Club.

This also matches the Status Match program extending through to October 31, 2025.

Current Perks

Blue Extras and Deep Blue Extras are perks available to repeat sailors as part of the Sailing Club. Blue Extras unlock on a sailor’s third voyage and include benefits like a dedicated support line, a cocktail event, laundry service, and a daily specialty coffee. Deep Blue Extras, available from the fifth voyage, add perks such as a $100 Bar Tab credit, unlimited premium Wi-Fi, priority boarding, and additional laundry and coffee benefits.

Potential New System

Sailors have been eagerly awaiting the long-delayed version of the Sailing Club promised in 2023, and it seems that changes are on the horizon. The new system was expected to introduce a token-based approach to loyalty, where sailors can earn tokens based on the amount spent on voyage fares rather than the number of cruises sailed.

The token system should retroactively convert past spending into tokens, with the possibility of future promotions to accelerate token earnings and offer more valuable perks. It’s unclear if Virgin Voyages is still working on this type of loyalty scheme but several sailors who purchased 2023 sailings were promised “accelerated tokens” during “Red Hot Booking Months”. Many are also hoping that Virgin Voyages opens up the limited Club 485c.

Sailing Club Perks Appear on 2026 Bookings

Despite the updated expiration date, Sailing Club perks with Deep Blue Extras and Blue Extras currently appear on 2026 bookings. It’s unclear whether this is an oversight, a placeholder, or an indication that some form of these benefits may continue beyond the stated cutoff.

Since the Sailing Club itself isn’t ending—only the current perk structure is changing—it’s likely that a new system will take its place. As more details emerge, we’ll continue to provide updates.

At this time this is simply a rumor and should be taken as such.

We take the 4 night cruise often since we live in Fla. This is concerning as the people taking longer cruises will get status due to money spent verse the type/length of cruise.

  2. Barry says:

We have two cruises booked the year, and next year and one booked Jan 27, which will be our 12th voyage, all are currently showing DBEs, if these are removed I’ll probably never book again, as there’s no reason to remain loyal , it feels like year on year what made Virgin attractive is being diluted, let’s see what happens but I think the next booking could be MSC YC

    1. Stephanne says:

I have 3 cruise booked 2 11 nighters and 16 night Panama. If DBE get removed, totally will suck, because we are EXPECTING laundry, coffee, bar tab and early boarding. We have done 10 VV cruises. It appears Virgin is pulling the rug out from their loyal customers.

  3. Stephanie says:

Dollars not days where is the incentive to cruise with Virgin?

  4. Island Boy says:

Continuing to loose originality! Let’s be like everyone else. Kids next!

  5. Stephanne says:

I think it’s a bad idea to take away DBE perks earned. Several cruises booked expecting to have perks on.
If perks are taken away, why not just book with other lines.

  6. Gabriel says:

I just hope they will honor people that are Blue Extra and DBE and went loyal for the past years ..!

    1. Beth Dillard says:

Agree! The past guests with VV loyalty should be grandfathered in to the current perks.

  7. Mickey says:

Seems like just more perks for rockstars then, which seems unfair.

    1. Rob Sammons says:

Let’s see if it comes to fruition. It’s been promised for years!

      1. Stephanne Smith says:

If rhey take away all our DBE perks . Why not just sail a different cruise line?
Seems bad after your are loyal to now take away perks. And several cruises booked expecting perks to be on them. Not good plan

  8. Gary Morris says:

My reading of the terms is that the “earning” period for BE or DBE is 31 Oct 25, but the use of the benefits is still until the end of the year.

“Blue Extras and Deep Blue Extras are available to Sailors who have earned these perks on all eligible voyages until 31 October 2025.” (T&C 3)

But who knows… why make something simple when VV do so well at making it complicated!!

    1. Rob Sammons says:

Definitely some sort of change from 31st December

  9. Brandon says:

I think it’s a mistake to go to a token system based on dollars spent. The point of the loyalty program is to keep your regulars, not your high spenders; because cruise loyalty programs can’t offer rewards that are going to be meaningful to people willing to spend RS & MRS money. I like how VV tries to be original and not just copy other cruise lines. But in this case, there is a reason most cruise lines use nights spent on board + type of room as their metric; instead of dollars spent like airlines & casinos use. And VV should be following the cruise industry standard here, not the casino/airline industry standards.
The least expensive cruises are always going to be the ones VV has the lowest demand for. A loyalty program based on dollars also makes those the easiest cruises for people to go to other lines for, because they aren’t missing out on earning much with VV.
