Virgin Voyages has begun retiring its Sip and Savor drink pairing menus across the fleet. First launched in February 2024, the optional pairing program allowed sailors to add curated drinks alongside the included food menus in several onboard restaurants. Reports from Scarlet & Resilient Lady suggest the offering has now been removed outside of The Test Kitchen, this change will likely roll out fleet-wide.

What Was Sip and Savor?

Sip and Savor was introduced as an optional drinks pairing menu available in select restaurants including Gunbae, Extra Virgin, Razzle Dazzle, Pink Agave and The Wake.

The concept was simple. Sailors could order a set of curated drinks designed to complement courses from the existing included menu. The food itself was already included in the voyage fare. The pairing simply added drinks at a fixed price. Pricing typically ranged from $25 to $35 depending on the restaurant.

Importantly, sailors did not need to order the specific dishes listed on the pairing menu. They could choose other items from the restaurant and still purchase the drink pairing. However, this flexibility sometimes caused confusion.

Why Some Sailors Were Confused

Because the food was already included, some sailors misunderstood the concept. A few believed the pairing required ordering the exact dishes listed, while others assumed it was a fixed tasting menu. In reality, Sip and Savor was simply a drinks bundle. The food suggestions were there to guide flavor combinations, not to limit ordering choices.

That distinction was not always clear, especially for first time Virgin Voyages sailors and likely resulted in a lower uptake. However the pricing was always less than the cost of the drinks ordered individually. In effect, it felt similar to receiving one drink at little or no additional cost compared to buying each separately. Because Bar Tab could be applied, sailors who had pre purchased drinks credit could easily allocate it toward the pairing.

The Test Kitchen Pairing Remains

At present, the only curated drinks pairing still available fleet wide is at The Test Kitchen which was never branded as Sip & Savor. The Test Kitchen pairing is built into a structured tasting format. The experience includes five curated drinks designed specifically to match each course.

This format has always been clearer, as The Test Kitchen itself follows a set menu concept rather than an open ordering style.

No Replacement Planned

Virgin Voyages has not announced a replacement for Sip and Savor in other restaurants. Sailors can still order drinks individually however, the pre set pairing bundles have been removed.

We will continue to monitor menus across the fleet on our restaurant menus page, the most up to date place on the internet for Virgin Voyages menus.

So.. to be less confusing, VV removed the S/S menu and subbed in the WRONG menu? I also noticed the Lucky Lotus menu linked to my Valiant lady sailing and I WAS PUMPED!! I was also excited for sip and savor and have a bar tab that would let me add this for my restaurant dinners. I’m hoping the staff will help me pair in its absence.

    1. Rob Sammons says:

Yeah the app has a known issue where it lists Lucky Lotus for all Razzle restaurants, as ever the only place with the most up to date menus is our website: https://vvinsider.com/restaurant-menus/

Valiant will be getting a new concept post dry dock from May 25th.

    It’s a shame that they’re removing this.
We enjoyed the sip and savor on many occasions. Hopefully they’ll come out with a similar concept.

  3. Matt Creese says:

That is a shame, I enjoyed the concept and didn’t feel it was that confusing. I indulged in one too many sip and savours on my last voyage.

    1. Alison says:

I agree I did not see it as confusing at all. I’m really sad to see this go

  4. Nigel says:

    Hi Rob

We have a splash for you bash package which includes a curated drinks which previously has been from the sip and savour menu, the wake was our chosen restaurant. How will this now look moving ahead as the splash for your bash package has not changed on VV. Thanks Nigel

    1. Rob Sammons says:

Splash should be the same, they still have the included drinks just not on the menu

  5. Lisa Young says:

We actually liked having this drink package for dinners and used it for dinners at the Wake and Pink Agave on our last voyage. They didnt have one of the wine choices we were expecting but were happy to swop for a similar one for no extra chargw. Will have to recalculate our likely bar tab to remove this now. 🙄

  6. Liz says:

You can count me as one of the sailors who didn’t realize this was a drink bundle. I thought we had to get the food listed so we never got it. If I had know it was a way from me to try that restaurants cocktails for cheaper I would have ordered it at every restaurant! 🙁 I hope they come up with a replacement that makes that more clear.

  7. Ryan says:

If it was a confusion issue, they would have tried to make it less confusing. Feels to me like not enough people were doing it so they stopped.

  8. Tracey says:

It’s a shame that the aspects that made Virgin unique and different from mainstream lines are slowly disappearing. I did Sip and Savor on each of my sailings and always enjoyed trying the different offerings.

  9. David says:

Looks like the menus haven’t been updated to remove sip & savor

    1. Rob Sammons says:

Hi David, all of our pages are updated but you may have some local caching if you have viewed them before. If you find any you think aren’t up to date send us a message 🙂

After reading this news, I went to look at the Razzle dazzle menu on the Virgin app. It had indeed changed and the sip and savor was gone, but the original Razzle dazzle dinner menu had been replaced by the Lucky Lotus menu. My cruise is on the Valiant Lady in March. Is this a mistake, or has the Valiant Lady dinner menu changed to the Lucky Lotus menu?

        1. Rob Sammons says:

The Virgin Voyages app is wrong. Valiant will get a new concept in May but until now it’s the same menu: https://vvinsider.com/restaurant-menus/

        2. Jon says:

Lucky Lotus is only on Scarlet Lady

    2. Ryan Weinzierl says:

If it was a confusion issue, they would have tried to make it less confusing. Feels to me like not enough people were doing it so they stopped.
